In 1990, Kyle and Laurie founded Kyle Hunt & Partners with a simple but powerful idea: to build homes beyond the ordinary—homes that would stand the test of time in both craftsmanship and spirit. Thirty-five years later, that vision remains the heart of everything we do. Today, as we celebrate this incredible milestone, we invite you to take a look back at the journey that shaped who we are—and the principles of Integrity, Wisdom, and Zeal that continue to guide us into the future.
The KH&P story began when Kyle and Laurie met in 1989, both working for custom homebuilders. Kyle brought a deep understanding of project management and site supervision, while Laurie brought experience as an assistant project manager, along with a background in business and interior design. United by a shared vision, they launched Kyle Hunt & Partners in June 1990.
In the early days, the two handled every part of the building process themselves—from working closely with architects and designers to supervising the job site, job site cleanup, and managing accounting. Their first project was a small home for the son of a former client, and the word quickly began to spread.
Just a year later, KH&P had two homes featured in the Parade of Homes in Edina—gaining attention for their thoughtful craftsmanship and aesthetic care. But it was the 1994 Parade of Homes project that marked a pivotal turning point. Partnering with a longtime mentor and the Hometime TV series, Kyle and Laurie brought the Maple Forest home to life using a plan architecturally designed by Michaela Mahady. Thousands of visitors toured the home—many more than once—and the project officially put KH&P on the map.
That same year, KH&P showcased a second custom home in Edina. With momentum building, they hired their first site supervisor and began receiving calls from many architects and clients who had seen and admired their work.
From the very beginning, Kyle and Laurie believed that the process mattered just as much as the final product. They envisioned a company where the client’s experience was marked by transparency, communication, and care. What should it feel like to build your dream home? That question guided every detail.
KH&P’s approach has always been collaborative: architects, interior designers, and specialty craftspeople are brought into the fold early, forming a team that reflects each client’s goals, values, and lifestyle. As Kyle said: “If we were building our own home, what would we want the experience to feel like?”
That question continues to drive us. Over time, our process has become more refined and more seamless—without losing the heart behind it. Our goal remains unchanged: to create architecturally designed, handcrafted homes with extraordinary care and intention.
Much of that care comes from our team—an exceptional group of individuals who share in our vision. Each person at KH&P contributes their unique skills and perspectives while upholding the same high standards of communication, respect, and detail that have defined us from the start. It’s their dedication that brings our values to life, project after project.
These three words are more than a tagline. They reflect the values that have defined our work and culture for over three decades.
Integrity – Moral soundness; honesty; freedom from corrupting influence or motive.
We do the right thing—even when it’s hard, even when no one is watching. This has been the foundation of our reputation and the reason so many clients and craftspeople return to us again and again.
Wisdom – The ability to discern or judge what is true, right, or lasting; insight.
With 35 years of experience, we’ve gained deep insight into what works, what doesn’t, and how to guide our clients through every step of the process with confidence and care.
Zeal – Enthusiastic devotion to a cause, ideal, or goal and tireless diligence in its furtherance.
We continue to be excited about each home we build. That passion is the fuel behind every detail—from foundation to final trim.
And while those values were foundational from the beginning, it’s our team who continues to carry them forward. Every team member at KH&P is chosen not just for their talent, but for their integrity, insight, and energy. Together, they ensure that the homes we build—and the experiences we create—stand the test of time.
Our clients value quality, creativity, and authenticity. They come to us not just to build a house, but to create something truly personal—something that reflects their story, their vision, and their future. Whether it’s a lakeside retreat or a modern family home, they seek a genuine partnership and a team that cares as much as they do.
“We create unique custom homes and renovations for buyers who respect incomparable individuality, exceptional craftsmanship, and the unparalleled surroundings of nature.”
These relationships are at the heart of everything we do. In fact, many of our clients return to us for second (and even third) projects. Some of the families we built for decades ago now return with their children to create homes of their own.
The respect we’ve earned doesn’t end with our clients—it extends to the incredible craftspeople, subcontractors, and vendors who help bring our homes to life. Many of them have worked with us for decades, drawn to our high standards, clear communication, and the sense of pride we all share in our work.
As one quote we found early on beautifully captures:
“When we build, let us think that we build forever… Let it be such work as our descendants will thank us for.” – John Ruskin
That spirit still drives every partnership and every project.
